The Great Stupa of Universal Compassion (Bendigo, Australia)

The Great Stupa of Universal Compassion has been under construction in Victoria, Australia for the last 15 years. The site was blessed by the Dalai Lama of Tibet in 2007  when the initial concrete slab had been laid and the frame of the bottom level erected.  We sat inside the structure in  the cold June sunlight as His Holiness arrived via helicopter!

Through the generosity of donors, the Stupa is now well off the ground and reaching high into the blue Bendigo sky.

The Stupa, when completed, will be a replica of the Gyantse Kumbum Stupa in Tibet, and will be the largest Stupa of its kind in the West.

Stupas are said to have many benefits which include magnetizing enlightened energy, creating peace and harmony,  promoting longevity,  and subduing physical and mental illness, pestilence, and disease.

You can read more about the stupas in general and the story behind Great Stupa of Universal Compassion here.

Congratulations and well done to all those who have contributed and are contributing to this beautiful reminder of our enlightened potential. May the Stupa benefit all beings for thousands of years to come. ♥
